Biography
My Journey
Roots in Creativity and Nature
Growing up on the island of Chiloé in Chilean Patagonia, my early years were a tapestry of music, art, and natural beauty. Surrounded by the island’s breathtaking landscapes, I immersed myself in playing music and exploring various artistic outlets, which became integral parts of my identity. The Boy Scouts played a significant role during this time, instilling in me a profound appreciation for nature and fostering a strong work ethic. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for my lifelong commitment to creativity and environmental stewardship.
Forging a Path in Culinary Arts
At 18, I embarked on a culinary journey at a family-run restaurant, where I embraced roles that spanned from chef to server to creative manager. This chapter was more than just a job; it was a canvas where I combined my artistic sensibilities with practical skills, learning the nuances of the culinary world and nurturing my passion for food and hospitality. The experience was both a crucible and a crucible, shaping my approach to blending creativity with industry expertise.
Academic and Professional Growth
My quest for knowledge brought me to the United States, where I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During my college years, I served as VP of Marketing for Delta Sigma Pi, a professional fraternity, where I honed my leadership and strategic skills. Concurrently, I worked as a marketing assistant at the university’s Lubar College of Business and volunteered as a tutor for Spanish-speaking students. These experiences not only enriched my academic journey but also deepened my understanding of marketing and business practices.
Immersive Industry Experience
While in college, I had the opportunity to intern with Stone’s Throw Winery in northern Wisconsin and Catan Pisco in Chicago. These internships provided me with invaluable insights into the wine and spirits industry, blending my culinary background with a deeper understanding of marketing and business practices. The hands-on experiences were instrumental in bridging my passion for the culinary arts with industry expertise.
Navigating the Business Landscape
After graduation, I joined Great Lakes Solutions, LLC, as a Business Analyst/Project Manager. This role allowed me to immerse myself in data analytics and business processes, refining my skills in understanding and optimizing business operations. The insights gained here were crucial for my subsequent career moves, equipping me with the tools to tackle complex business challenges.
Embracing Digital Marketing
My career trajectory led me to Hoan Marketing, where I took on the role of Digital Marketing Manager. In this capacity, I orchestrated comprehensive marketing strategies and managed social media accounts for nonprofits and mission-driven businesses. This role enabled me to apply my marketing skills in meaningful ways, working on campaigns that aligned with my values and expanded my expertise in digital marketing.
Ventures and Personal Projects
Alongside my primary roles, I pursued freelance work with a diverse range of clients, including restaurants and tourism companies. I also developed the International Student Resource site to guide students through international education during the pandemic. My latest venture, Sur Streetwear, is a clothing brand dedicated to raising awareness for endangered animals and supporting related nonprofits, reflecting my ongoing commitment to both creative expression and meaningful impact.
